1996 Jean Paul Gaultier Femme “Cyberbaba” SS1996 Red & Black Optical Stripe Blaz
$3,500.00
From one of the most iconic and collectible collections in Jean Paul Gaultier’s entire body of work — the Spring/Summer 1996 “Cyberbaba” collection, a landmark moment in 1990s fashion that merged digital-age thinking with Gaultier’s unrivaled mastery of the body. The Cyberbaba collection was built around the concept of optical illusion and body mapping — using print and stripe to distort, contour, and redefine the human silhouette in ways that felt genuinely futuristic for the time and remain visually arresting today.
This blazer is documented on the SS1996 Cyberbaba runway — the same optical stripe body-mapping construction seen walking the Jean Paul Gaultier Femme catwalk, here in the collection’s bold red and black colorway. Cut in vivid scarlet with all-over black undulating stripe print, the lines curve and contour deliberately around the body, creating a trompe l’oeil effect that maps the silhouette from every angle — the jacket appearing to sculpt the body beneath it. Sharply structured shoulders, a deep V notch lapel, fitted waist seaming and a center back vent complete a silhouette that is equal parts couture tailoring and conceptual art.
Please note that the sleeves have been altered from the original. All other elements of the garment remain as originally constructed.
Cyberbaba pieces are among the most sought-after in the entire Gaultier archive — a collection that defined the intersection of technology, body consciousness and haute couture at the height of Gaultier’s creative powers. Jean Paul Gaultier Femme label, Made in Italy, size 40 IT / 6 US intact.
